Pyramids were built to serve as the tombs of the pharaohs. Egyptians believed that when one dies, one goes to the underworld to enjoy the afterlife and pyramids are the entrances to the underworld. Khufu was the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, in the first half of the Old Kingdom period. He is the son of Pharaoh Sneferu and Queen Hetepheres I.
The Khufu is the biggest pyramid and has a mysterious structure. It is said that Pharaoh Khufu was able to talk to the Sun God Ra directly inside the pyramid during lunar eclipses.
After Khufu was dead, Hemiunu, the chief priest’s ambition grew so big that he buried two of Khufu’s sons and became the first Pharaoh of the Fifth Dynasty. He started building a pyramid of his own.
Hemiunu believed that one could only talk to Ra inside the Khufu pyramid. To explore the secrets inside the pyramid and find guidance from God, he broke into Khufu Pyramid and killed all the guards who tried to stop him. A lunar eclipse was coming up and Hemiunu announced that he was going to host a ceremony inside Khufu Pyramid to talk to Ra...
